چکیده

The standard measure of productivity growth is the Solow residual. Its evaluation requires data on factor input shares or prices. Since these prices are presumed to match factor productivities, the standard procedure amounts to accepting at face value what is supposed to be measured. In this paper we determine total factor productivity growth without recourse to data on factor input prices. Factor productivities are de...ned as Lagrange multipliers to the program that maximizes the level of domestic ...nal demand. The consequent measure of total factor productivity is shown to encompass not only the Solow residual, but also the e¢ciency change of frontier analysis and the hitherto slippery terms-of-trade e¤ect. Using input-output tables from 1962 to 1991 we show that the source of Canadian productivity growth has shifted from technical change to terms-of-trade e¤ects.

Eco-efficiency and eco-productivity change over time in a multisectoral economic system

In the literature two approaches of productivity analyses can be found, namely the neoclassical approach and the frontier approach. Neoclassical analysis weights inputs by value shares, a procedure that requires data on factor input shares or prices. This approach imputes productivity growth to factors, but cannot distinguish a movement towards the efficiency frontier and a movement of the latt...

According to Agency Theory and Neoclassical Theory; New Ownership and Diversity of Public Sector Companies in Corporate Life Cycle

The purpose of this study is investigating and determining rate of seizing assets and acquisition other companies by public sector companies. We estimate this rate at various stages of the life cycle of the company. Therefore, according to their size and age, the companies have been divided into small, large, young, and mature groups, and for this purpose, we have collected data from a sample o...

Efficiency analysis of a multisectoral economic system

“Recessions are easily recognizable from a decrease in GDP. What really should interest us, however, is the difference between the potential of an economy and its actual performance” said Stiglitz in 2002. In the literature two approaches of productivity and efficiency analysis can be found, namely neoclassical approach and a frontier approach know as data envelopment analysis (DEA). Under neoc...

Capital , innovation , and growth accounting

In this paper we show how moving from the neoclassical model to the more recent endogenous growth paradigm can lead to markedly different interpretations of the same growth accounting data. In neoclassical theory, even if between 30 and 70 per cent of the growth of output per worker in OECD countries can be ‘accounted for’ by capital accumulation, yet in the long run all of the growth in output...
